The request here was to create a single work of art from two separate original images. The bride (alone) was be placed in a single frame with a separate image of her mother next to her. Although the bridal portrait was in good condition it required removing the groom and reconstructing the image. The bride's mother was an image that had considerable damage and therefore required extensive work. This then allowed for the two finished images to be put together. In the final framing (below) the portraits appear as two plaques.

I was pleased to be able to engage Gary to help me with the restoration of old photographs of my late parents, grandparents and twin sister. Some of the pictures he worked on were extremely old and had been held (not very carefully) in my family for many years, and were in very poor condition. Gary not only restored these photographs beautifully, but he removed unwanted details (and strangers) from the backgrounds, mounted them onto blocks and even took images from different photographs and combined them, producing unique and lovely portraits which my family and I will always cherish. Gary consulted with me along the way, ensuring the final result was exactly what I wanted – in fact they turned out even better than I ever imagined! SB
This beautiful portrait of a couple from the early 1900's,was discovered by accident with the original very small and in black and white. A number of family members requested a framed print as it was the only photograph of the couple in existence. Fortunately the original was in relatively good condition but still needed some repair work once copied. It was then given a sepia finish, mounted onto fine art canvas and framed. |
As can be seen, the original image was badly damaged, faded on the edges and lacking space on the right and below with feet cut off. The final image was extended where necessary, cleaned up and disturbing elements in the background were removed. In addition, the building was extended with added windows.
